About The Work
The outdoor pieces shown here are kinetic. The moving parts are held in stainless steel ball bearings and revolve 360 degrees. All work is made of non-ferrous metal – hence no rust. Even the painted elements are either stainless steel or aluminum. Most of my outdoor pieces are site specific. The client first invites me to visit the site. If not nearby, the client pays for economy airfare and accommodations. I take photos to develop a basic idea, then make a maquette, an exact model of the piece I propose in the material to be used at a scale of about one inch to one foot. If the client decides to purchase, I make the full size piece. If not, no charge.
I provide plans for an in-ground base and send a steel anchor assembly that the client’s mason sets in concrete. At local sites, I deliver and install the piece at no charge. For distant locations, I crate and have the piece shipped at the client’s expense, usually between $1,000 and $2.500. The client has the option of having me come out or using local people to do the installation according to my instructions.
While some of the indoor work is site specific it is more frequently bought from my studio or gallery inventory. Some indoor pieces are unique; some are made in small editions.
The price range is $15,000 to $50,000 for outdoor pieces and $5,000 to $15,000 for indoor, depending on how elaborate and whether it is unique. Maquettes, priced from $2,500 to $5,000, are produced in multiples. One copy of the maquette is given to the client.
